Here is a syllabic chart that we made for learners. It has a pronunciation guide at the top (“sounds like” row). Below, there is a syllabic chart with just the syllabic characters (no Latin alphabet).
Here is another syllabic chart with just the syllabic characters. This is a good resource to use if you are trying to learn syllabics.

My ancestors are the Alisappi family (Mary Alisappi)from Moose Factory. I made a trip there, and to Taykwa Tagamou First Nation in June (Dwight, Gilly, and Stanley Sutherland verified I am a cousin to them as well–my mom’s maiden name is Archibald). My cousin ( I understand I am related to most of the people on MF Island), Paula Rickard, gave me the Moose Cree Dictionary. I want to start learning and reclaiming my language, which was taken from me because of the assimilation policies of the Canadian government.
I am downloading the syllabics to start. A nêhiyawêwin speaker and friend said I should learn Jerry Saddleback’s Syllabics song, but I am unsure if it will be the same as the Moose Cree I dialect. I have downloaded an app for learning languages that I can download flash cards, etc. for learning.
I guess I am asking where to start? I hope you can help.
Hello, wâciye,
First, my apologies for the late response.
You can start by connecting with our coordinators. Ricki, Brad, and Terrence have been working on learning the language and immediately sharing what they have learned so far.
Please send an email to terrence@aaniskohtaaw.ca for the next steps.
